Organized by Penn Language Center, Pre-semester Orientation for Foreign Language Teaching Fellows and Lecturers takes place during the week before the first day of Fall semester classes. All language teaching faculty new to the University of Pennsylvania are invited to participate including teaching fellows, Fulbright FLTAs, full and part-time lecturers in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Lauder Institute.
In large and small groups, PLC staff and senior faculty lead program sessions which include topics such as applying the national standards, technology, inclusive teaching practices, and more. Attendees participate in a shock language lesson demo and deliver mini-teaching lessons of their own. The Center for Teaching and Learning also organizes a session on support resources and University policies.
Visit the Events page for this year's orientation schedule. New instructors who miss the orientation or are hired mid-year should contact the PLC technology director to be added to the orientation Canvas site.
