Amrit K. Gahunia has been teaching at the University of Pennsylvania since 1986 when she started teaching Punjabi and Hindi courses in the South Asia Studies department. Before coming to the University of Pennsylvania, she taught Hindi and Sanskrit in India after completing her MPhil in Hindi from Punjab University, Chandigarh. Her academic interests include developing Punjabi learning resources and the role of women in South Asian literature. She has developed Punjabi instructional material for her beginning and intermediate level students. She taught in the Hindi STARTALK program as a lead instructor. She also taught in the Hindi and Urdu STARTALK combined program. She worked as a translator and reviewer with the NFLC and other organizations. She also serves as an advisor for the Penn Sikh Organization and is active in variety of cultural organizations.
