Location:
Williams 440/Zoom

This workshop will focus on the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, Culture goal area as it relates to cultural products, practices and perspectives. First, we will frame the goal of cultural instruction, then, we will review the core concepts of Intercultural Communication and the goals for teachers and students during ICC exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the IMAGE framework to organize the different phases of lesson planning for ICC. This session will have an emphasis on measurable outcomes in the form of rubrics, both for students and teachers. There will also be several sample lesson plans for both Beginner and Intermediate level language learners, including a scaffolded English-language option conducted online in asynchronous Canvas discussion. Lastly, this research-informed practice allows for the incorporation of DEIB concepts and practices, in particular through a new ACTFL book called the Antiracist World Language Classroom which introduces the Six Dimensions of Antiracism in World Languages by Krishauna Hines-Gaither.
