USING DISCUSSIONS IN CANVAS
Friday, January 28, 10 AM to 11:00 AM in Zoom
Discussions are a vital part of a world language classroom, but they are not restricted to our face-to-face classroom environments. In this workshop, you will learn how Discussions fit into the hierarchy of Assignments in Canvas, how to create a Discussion, design a multimedia discussion, encourage students to interact with each other and what the different settings in Canvas mean. CHOOSING TECH WITH TPACK
Friday, February 11, 10 AM to 11:30 AM in Van Pelt 113, Collaborative Classroom
TPACK is a framework for integrating three knowledge areas- technology, pedagogy and content- to create activities that embrace technology while also focusing on student learning goals. In this workshop, we will learn about the TPACK framework and how to use it, identify goals for technology integration in assignments, and finally, apply TPACK to our own course activities. This workshop will be beneficial for all of us as we make the transition from remote to face-to-face learning.

RESOURCES ON SOCIAL JUSTICE IN WORLD LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Friday, March 18, 10 AM to 11:30 AM in Van Pelt 113, Collaborative Classroom
Participate in a series of reflective exercises to develop your own toolkit for incorporating social justice into your course activities and approaching challenging conversations with your students. Workshop activities can be reused for your class and we will discuss ways to conduct them in face-to-face classes as well as remote and asynchronous classes. Sources for workshop content include ACTFL and the Social Justice Special Interest Group (SIG), the Center Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA), which recently received a federal grant to address the topic in language education.

HOT TOPICS IN THE FIELD

Language educators around the world are adjusting their curricula to address the “hot” topics that emerge from our everyday lives, and impact our course design in unique ways. We would like to hear from you- what topics are coming up in your classroom? How you are approaching these hot topics in your course design and in the L2? What do the students need to hear from you, and what work will we require from them? In this session, we invite you to share your experiences with us and discuss what they mean for the field of language instruction.
