Event
What is SLA research? What is SLA theory? And what are their relationships to second language teaching? This talk will provide a brief history of SLA since its current inception (late 1960s/early 1970s). What this history will reveal is that relevant research from SLA was established early on in the development of the field. This relevance can be encapsulated in a handful of “principles” or “insights.” In the course of this discussion, VanPatten will distinguish SLA research from educational research to be clear about the domains of inquiry involved.
Q&A and reception to follow.
