Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania faculty in 2006, Melanie was a teacher at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf for six years. She is currently an adjunct professor at Arcadia University.

Research Interests:
Her research explores the role that ASL plays in American politics and education, with particular emphasis on the impact of the mass media and attitudes on perception of the Deaf.
